How this is calculated
  • Overhead per hour = monthly overhead ÷ hours spent grooming each month.
  • Shop rate = target pay per hour + overhead per hour.
  • Groom time = minutes × (1 + coat extra time %).
  • Your cost = groom time in hours × shop rate + product cost.
  • Suggested price = your cost ÷ (1 − card fee %), then rounded up as you choose.
  • Taxes, tips, add-ons and no-shows are not included.

Pricing is where many new groomers guess. This calculator works backward from what you want to earn: your target pay, your monthly overhead and how many hours you actually groom. It turns those into a shop rate, then into a suggested price for each service based on time, coat and product cost.

How to price your grooming services

  1. Pick a target hourly pay. Decide what you want to earn for each hour on the table.
  2. Add up your monthly overhead. Include rent or van payments, insurance, software, fuel, utilities and supplies you buy every month.
  3. Be honest about grooming hours. Count only hands-on grooming time. Admin, cleaning and driving are real time, but they are not billable, so your price needs to cover them.
  4. Time each service. Use your real times if you have them. Coat type adds extra time for longer or heavier coats.
  5. Add product and card fees. Shampoo, conditioner and blades cost money on every groom, and card processing takes a percentage of each payment.
  6. Compare with your area. Check what groomers near you charge with the free Grooming Price Check, then decide where you want to sit.

Frequently asked questions

Are the example numbers industry averages?

No. They are placeholders so you can see how the math works. Replace them with your own numbers.

What if my suggested price is higher than my area?

Look at your overhead and your hours first. Grooming more hours each month spreads overhead thinner. You can also offer add-ons, shorten services where you can, or position yourself as a premium option.

Does this include tips or taxes?

No. Tips, sales tax, add-ons and no-shows are not included. Check with your state tax agency about any sales tax rules.
